Non-BJP candidates being stopped from campaigning: Omar, Mehbooba

Srinagar: The former chief ministers of Jammu and Kashmir including NC vice president Omar Abdullah and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday alleged that the non-BJP candidates in the fray for the upcoming polls were being stopped from campaigning.

In a tweet, Omar questioned the conduct of elections in JK, saying is this the safe and terror-free JK, which the Home Minister of India Amit Shah was talking about yesterday.

“What sort of elections are being held in J&K where candidates are being stopped from campaigning? Is this the safe, terror free J&K the Home Minister was tweeting about yesterday?” Omar tweeted.

Meanwhile, Mehbooba in her tweet stated that the non-BJP candidates for DDC polls were not being allowed to campaign freely and are being locked on the pretence of security.

She, however, stated that the BJP and its proxies are given full ‘bandobast’ (arrangements) to move around.

“Non BJP candidates for DDC polls aren’t allowed to campaign freely & are being locked up on the pretence of security. But BJP & its proxies are given full bandobast to move around. Is this the democracy that GOI claimed its promoting in yesterday’s phone convo with US Pres elect?” Mehbooba tweeted.
