Kulgam residents block Frisal-Bijbehara road to protest erratic power supply

Kulgam: The residents of Frisal village and its adjoining areas in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday morning staged a protest against the Power Development Department for erratic power supply.

Shouting anti-PDD slogans, the protesters blocked the Frisal- Bijbhera road in the main town for over two hours, thereby disrupting the traffic movement.

The protesting residents said that they have been suffering a lot due to the unscheduled power cuts. “At a time when the power department claims to provide better power supply in winters but the electricity in our areas remains off for maximum hours,” said one of the protesting resident.

They said that no curtailment schedule has been framed by the PDD. “They snap the power supply whenever they want,” said another protestor.

The villagers added that the students were suffering a lot as they have been preparing for their board exams these days.

However, Tehsildar Frisal, Ghulam Rasool, Executive Engineer PDD visited the spot to pacify the protestors. Later, the protesters dispersed off peacefully.
