Armed forces personnel, Govt teacher threaten Panch member ‘to abstain from voting’ in Baramulla

Baramulla: A Panchayat member has filed a complaint against three persons including an armed forces personnel for allegedly threatening her to abstain from voting in the ongoing District Development Council elections in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

The woman identifying herself as Rehana Begum, a Panch member from Block Hudipora, belonging to Frasdab has in her complaint before police post Delina (Baramulla) maintained that three persons, one of them “brandishing a pistol”, approached her last night asking her to abstain from voting (in the DDC elections).

The trio, as per Begum, allegedly included Manzoor Ahmad Dar, a civilian, Iqbal Ahmad, a government teacher by profession and Irshad Ahmad Wani, an Indian Reserve Police (IRP) personnel.

Meanwhile, a police official told said that police have registered a case in this regard under FIR Number 214/2020 under sections 506, 354 B, 452 of IPC and further investigations have been set in motion.

“Mother of one of the accused is also contesting in these (DDC) elections and this threatening may be a ploy to subdue the voters who may vote in favour of other candidates”, said another official.
