Two militants killed in military operation in JK’s Poonch district, says police ‘associate arrested’

Poonch: Two foreign militants affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba were killed and their associate arrested during a military operation against militants at Chatta-Pani area of JK’s Poonch district, officials said on Sunday.

Officials said that a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched by armed forces personnel in areas along Mughal Road which resulted in the contact with the hiding militants.

“A contact has been established with the militants and firing has started from both sides,” they had said earlier.

Meanwhile, police in a tweet informed that two militants have been killed in the gunfight, adding one associate has been arrested.

“Two terrorists killed. One associate arrested at Poshana area in #Poonch in a joint operation by #JKP #Army and #CRPF,” police tweeted.

“Senior army and police officers leading the operation made repeated appeals to militants for surrender but they fired upon them after which encounter broke out in which two LeT militants from Pakistan identified as Sajid and Bilal were killed while their bodies have been recovered from the encounter site,” officials said.

They added that one of the militant associate hailing from Shopian district attempted to escape from the site but was arrested by police and army soon.

“Two militants were killed and one of their associates has been arrested,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Poonch Ramesh Angral said.

He further informed that two AK rifles, six magazines, 300 bullets, one UBGL, five hand grenade, 300 grams of RDX, two mobile phones and one Satellite phone have been recovered from the slain militants.
