Army assures probe, terms the incident unfortunate
Baramulla: Journalists from north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday staged a protest demonstration against armed forces personnel for allegedly thrashing them during an army event in the district.
Scores of the protesting journalists said that army has physically assaulted them when they had gone to cover the army sponsored event Jeshan-e-Baramulla in the district.
They said that after covering the event when media persons were about to take interview of Bollywood actress Amesha Patell, an army officer appeared on spot and “misbehaved” with the journalists.
“The army man then physically assaulted news correspondent of ETV Bharat Ashiq Mir, Sheikh Dawood of AajTak/DDK, senior correspondent Kashmir Despatch Suhail Khan, said one of the protesting journalists, adding that the camera of one of the journalists Mudasir Ahmad of News Network 18 was also damaged by him.
The protesting journalists have demanded stern action against the erring armed forces personnel.
Meanwhile, a senior army official in a statement has assured action against the armed forces personnel and termed the incident “unfortunate”.
In this regard, Baramulla Working Journalist Association and North Kashmir Journalists Association have strongly condemned the “attack” on journalists and urged the top army brass to initiate an inquiry into the matter.
