Srinagar: The residents of Chattabal area of Srinagar on Sunday staged a protest at press enclave, demanding authorities to look why the army has dug a playfield in their locality.

Scores of residents from Chana Mohalla locality of Chattabal and adjoining areas assembled at Srinagar’s press enclave demanding authorities look into the issue as they are apprehensive that “army may grab the land”.

Javaid Ahmad, one of the protesters said that they saw some army men digging a local playfield in their area. “Soon after spotting them in the field, we approached towards them and asked why they are digging the playfield. We were told that they were planting a tree,” he said.

However, he said, locals are apprehensive that the Army is going to “grab the land”, therefore want the authorities to look into the matter.

“The administration must look into the matter and ensure that the land available as the playfield for the youth must not be grabbed by anyone,” Ahmad said. (KNO)
