Militant arrested in Bandipora, arms and ammunition recovered: Police

Srinagar: Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested a JeM militant from Patushahi area of Bandipora and recovered arms and ammunition from his possession.

In a statement, police said: “Based on credible information, regarding the movement of militants from Sopore to Bandipora, a joint special checkpoint was established by Bandipora Police along with security forces at Patushahi Bandipora. During checking, one active militant identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Khan, son of Fayaz Ahmad Khan, a resident of Panzigam Bandipora was arrested.

Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from his possession. As per police records he was affiliated with JeM.

“Preliminary enquiry reveals that the militant had joined recently and was tasked to carry out subversive activities in Sopore and Bandipora towns. It is pertinent to mention here that on 26/01/2021, the said militant managed to escape from a cordon and search operation at Adipora area of Sopore while taking advantage of darkness,” police said.

Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Bandipora and further investigation has been initiated.
