Selective action against Govt school teachers for indulging in private practice?

While the government has barred govt school teachers from holding private classes, the practice is rampant in Kashmir.

Srinagar: Scores of government school teachers across Kashmir division continue to indulge in private teaching practices, however government has selectively taken action a few.

On January 14, Chief Education Officer (CEO) Srinagar in a notice had said that government school teachers, as per the directions conveyed by the Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK) have been barred from engaging in private tuition or private teaching activity.

“Failing this, action as warranted under the rules will be initiated against the erring teaching personnel,” the circular reads, adding that the registration of coaching centre will be withdrawn or suspended with immediate effect and disciplinary action under the provisions of law will be initiated against the management if any tuition centre hires government teacher as their faculty at the institute.

Following this, CEO Baramulla suspended a government teacher who was teaching at private coaching center in Baramulla after he was caught red handed in the coaching center while taking classes.

However, there are scores of government teachers who are involved in various private coaching institutions at various places across Kashmir.

As per a source, there are many government schools teachers from Barmulla who are taking classes at various coaching institutions in Baramulla including one in watergam Rafiabad and in sopore.

In Srinagar, scores of government schools teachers are teaching at many coaching centers in posh areas including Parry Pora, Baghat, Raj Bagh.

In Habak area of Gulab Bagh zone another government school teacher is teaching maths up to class 10th in his own coaching center.

Another government teacher in a renowned government model school in Srinagar is teaching at his own coaching center in Nowgam area of Srinagar.

However, no action has been taken against them even as government has directed strict action against any violation.

An official at the education department said that CEO Srinagar has constituted a team of 25 members spread in eight zones of Srinagar which will monitor the implementation of order.

“They have been asked to submit the report after they inspect the coaching centers within seven days,” he added.

The team includes, Principal SP higher secondary – Riyaz Ahmad Sidique, Principal boys middle school Gurgari Muhalla – Javaid Ahamd, Principal Rainawari higher secondary school – Kounser Jabeen, Principal boys higher secondary Batamallo – Manzoor Ahmad, Principal girls higher secondary school Nishat – Ghulam Mohidin, Principal boys higher secondary Khimber – Zahida Akhter, Principal girls higher secondary school Khanyar -Shaheen Showkat, Principal boys higher secondary school Palpora – Nusrat Geelani.

Principal Gurgari Muhallah Javaid Ahamd told Free Press Kashmir that he received directions from CEO office yesterday and they will start working on the order.

“There might be many such cases in Srinagar and we will visit all the registered coaching institutes of Srinagar and inspect if any violation of the order is happening. In case there is any violation we will act as per the rules,” he said.

Director School Education, Dr. Younis Malik said, that they have constituted a team in every district that will monitor the implementation of the order.

“We have received many complaints from Srinagar, Anantnag, Baramulla, Pulwama. We are acting strictly against every complaint,” he added.
