Sonamarg opens for Tourists, a month earlier this year

Sonamarg: Jammu and Kashmir administration Thursday opened the picturesque tourist spot of Sonmarg in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district a month earlier than the scheduled opening.

Sonmarg would usually open for tourists in the month of April. The opening was marked by the day-long long festival organised by Directorate of Tourism and inaugurated by the Advisor to J&K LG, Baseer Khan, who also flagged off many sports activities.

Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal Shafqat Iqbal while speaking on the occasion, said: “This is for the first time that Sonmarg will be thrown open for tourists in the month of February and district Administration in collaboration with Tourism department is ready to host the tourists.”

A couple from Jaipur said: “This is our first visit and we feel we are in Switzerland, the beauty around the valley is breathtaking, and back home I would tell everyone should visit this part of the world.”

Pertinently, in June 2020, the tourism department has been organising various events and programs to attract the domestic and foreign tourists.

Commissioner Secretary Tourism Sarmad Hafeez said, this summer they will be incorporating many events and programmes and more tourist destinations will be explored. “We hope for a bumper tourism season this year,” he said.
