Govt employees in JK to disclose Social Media accounts ‘before salary is paid to them’

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has ordered for social media profiles of the government employees, including Facebook and Twitter, before a salary or allowance is paid to them.

Reiterating that all the new entrants need verification by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the administration has directed the department heads and new entrants to furnish these details via a government e-mail “to avoid violation of cybersecurity instructions of the government”.

The government, however, said that “given the urgency of matter” the officers can send the details via non-government email account.

As per the order, the employees in public departments will need to disclose their biographic details as well as social media accounts, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram.

Issued by secretary to the government, the order further mentioned that “it has, however, been observed that these instructions are not being adhered to in some departments, subordinate offices, as a result of which many individuals with dubious character antecedents and conduct have been paid salaries and other allowances, without obtaining their mandatory CID verification”.
