MeT predicts rain and snow in Kashmir

Srinagar: The minimum temperatures increased in Kashmir Valley amid forecast for rains in plains and snowfall in upper reaches, officials said on Sunday.

A meteorological department official told GNS that Srinagar recorded a low of 7.0°C against 4.2°C on the previous night. The temperature was 3.3°C above normal for this time of the year in this summer capital, the official said.

Qazigund recorded a low of 4.3°C against 1.5°C on the previous night while the mercury settled at 3.2°C at the famous resort of Pahalgam against minus 1.8°°C on the earlier night.

Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a low of 3.6°C against 2.5°C on the previous night.

The minimum temperature settled at 5.2°C in Kupwara against 0.1°C on the previous night, the official said.

Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 0.7°C against minus 3.0°C on the previous night.

“Widespread light to moderate rain/Ths/Snow in Kashmir division and Pirpanjal Range of Jammu
division, isolated light rain on plains of Jammu division,” the weatherman said about the forecast for next 24 hours.

For subsequent two days, the weatherman said there is possibility of isolated very light rain and thundershowers.

The MeT has maintained yellow weather warning for today. There are four types colour codes signifying the level of caution: green which means no action, yellow—situation to be watched), amber –government agencies need to be prepared for severe weather and red –action needed by the agencies.
