Srinagar: A Jammu and Kashmir police personnel was killed after militants attacked Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leader’s residence in Srinagar on Thursday afternoon.

Official sources said that the BJP leader was not at his residence when militants carried out the attack. The attack resulted in injuries to a policeman identified as Rameez Raja who was guarding the residence of BJP leader Anwar Ahmed Khan.

Officials added that Raja was subsequently shifted to SMHS hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries.

BJP media in-charge of Kashmir Manzoor Ahmed Bhat also confirmed the incident and said that militants attacked the residence and a policeman who was guarding the BJP leader’s residence received injuries. Khan is a District General Secretary of Baramulla and in charge of Kupwara district, he said.

Meanwhile, the BJP spokesperson Altaf Thakur condemned the “brutal attack”. “Our leader is safe as alert cops have repulsed the attack bravely,” he said.
