Mother-daughter duo charred to death in Kishtwar, samples collected for investigation

Kishtwar: A mother-daughter duo was charred to death in a massive blaze that broke out in a residential house in Manzgam area of Tehsil Mughalmaidan in Kishtwar district, officials said.

An official said that a fire broke out in the house of Poshi Devi, wife of Balwan Singh during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.

He said that in the incident, Poshi Devi (58) and her 24-year-old daughter identified as Neetu Devi were charred to death.

“The forensic teams rushed to the spot and collected the samples from the site of the incident while further investigations are in progress,” the official said.

Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar Shafqat Hussain Bhat also confirmed the incident to Kashmir News Observer and said that investigation is in progress and the cause of the fire is being ascertained.

In a similar incident reported on Monday, a 40-year-old woman and her son were charred to death after their house caught fire in Haftchinar area of Srinagar.

At least six residential houses were also gutted during the intervening night of Sunday-Monday in Haftchinar area of Srinagar, which falls under the jurisdiction of Shergari Police Station.

“Fire broke out in a residential house of one Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh, son of Mohammad Ramzan Sheikh of Dogerpati Haftchinar, which engulfed into other residential houses during the intervening night of Sunday-Monday,” they said.

In the incident, Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh’s wife identified as Ajmeera (40), his son Mohammad Abbass Sheikh (6), died on the spot.
