7-years on, 1,100 households yet to receive 2014 flood compensation

Srinagar: Of 90,000 houses that were damaged due to the 2014 devastating floods, 1100 householders are yet to receive compensation from the administration.

The official figures available with Kashmir News Observer reads that in the floods, at least 92,120 houses were partially, severely or fully damaged out of which at least 1101 householders are yet to receive the compensation under the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP).

The figure reveals that of the total amount sanctioned to the flood victims, there is an outstanding balance of Rs 26,770,000 that was yet to be disbursed among the victims.

“Financial assistance of amount Rs five hundred one crores and sixty-five lakh were disbursed among the victims of devastating floods that hit Kashmir in 2014,” the official documents read.

“The amount was distributed among the number of 77,569 beneficiaries under the Prime Minister’s Development Package for flood-affected victims of September 2014,” it reads.

The data reads that under the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) 77589.5 householders were paid an amount of Rs 50,16,550,000 out of which at least a balance of Rs 26,770,000 was yet to be distributed among at least 1101 householders.

The figures further reveal that a total of 92,120 houses was damaged in the floods that include fully, partially and severely damaged houses and the total amount that was sanctioned to the victims was Rs 98,906,700.
