Timber smugglers attack forest officials in Pulwama, injure many

Pulwama: Timbers smugglers on Saturday attacked a group of forest officials when they were on a routine night patrolling in Mitrigam area of Pulwama district in south Kashmir

Officials said that at around 3 am on Saturday, few timber-laden horses were spotted in Mitrigam and when forest officials from Forest Control Room Pulwama tried to intercept them, they were attacked with stones and sticks. In the incident, many of the officials sustained injuries and a vehicle belonging to the forest department was also damaged.

However, the officials succeed in seizing some of the illicit timber which was being taken by the smugglers on horses. “A team has been constituted to ascertain the identity of culprits and FIR shall be lodged in concerned Police Station,” the official said.

Range Officer Romshi hailed the efforts of forest officials and also thanked police officials for their timely response.
