Shopian: The Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday said that four newly recruited local militants were trapped in a military operation in Kanigam area in south Kashmir’s Shopian district and efforts were being made to persuade them to surrender.

Police said that the newly recruited militants belong to Al-Badr militant outfit.

In Tweet, Kashmir Zone Police said that armed forces were trying their best to persuade the trapped militants to surrender.

“Four newly recruited local #terrorists of Al-Badr terror outfit trapped in #Kanigam area of #Shopian. Exercising maximum restraint, Police & security forces are trying their best to persuade them to #surrender. @JmuKmrPolice,” Kashmir Zone police Tweeted.

However, in the latest tweet, police stated that the militants have turned down the surrender offer and fired upon the armed forces from inside the building.

“Turning down the surrender offer, trapped #terrorists fired and lobbed grenade on joint search party. Further details shall follow.”

The operation began after a joint team of Police, Army’s 44 RR and CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.
