After ‘stopping supply to NGOs’, helpline to facilitate oxygen for COVID patients after prescription, Admin approval

Oxygen

Srinagar: Amid several reports of oxygen supply ban to any private society or NGO in Jammu and Kashmir, the Srinagar administration has stated that there was no ban on the supply of oxygen to individuals in medical need, and refilled cylinders would be provided to them after furnishing requisite prescription from a doctor to the control rooms.

The requisite prescription from a doctor can be furnished to the control rooms set up at Director Industries Jammu and Divisional Commissioner COVID control room Kashmir.

The Admin has also issued phone numbers and email addresses so that no patient suffers due to the lack of oxygen.

“Other than Whatsapp No. 9971798596 & Covid War room Helpline No. 0194-2483650 here is email for facilitation of Oxygen refilling: [email protected],” tweeted Srinagar district administration.

In another tweet, the administration said that it has streamlined the process to enable faster delivery to most needy patients, adding the earlier post shared by the Admin was misinterpreted by the people.

There are rumors that there is a ban on the supply of oxygen to private hospitals and individuals in medical need, in JK. This is incorrect. It is clarified that there is “no ban whatsoever” for any individual who requires medical oxygen during home isolation based on a medical assessment, the Admin said.

“A post is being shared with a claim that administration is preventing NGOs/Pvt bodies/Individuals from Oxygen refilling. The claim is misleading,” the Tweet read.

To ensure that oxygen is available to patients genuinely needing it, the Admin has decided that refilled cylinders will be provided to them after furnishing the requisite prescription from a doctor to the control rooms.

On Thursday, the district Admin had directed oxygen manufacturing units to stop the supply of the life-saving gas to any private society or NGO with immediate effect.

In an order, Srinagar District Magistrate Aijaz Asad, who is also the chairman of the district disaster management authority, had said the oxygen manufacturing units within the jurisdiction of the district shall supply oxygen refills only to the designated hospitals/clinics.

“(They) will stop supply to any private society/NGO with immediate effect,” the order said. The order passed under the National Disaster Management Act 2005 and the Epidemic Disease Act 1897 said supplies to private persons/societies/NGOs (other than private hospitals) shall be made only with prior approval of the district magistrate, Srinagar.
