Reliance, HCL announces vaccination for employees, Chidambaram questions quantity of COVID vaccine production in India

New India: Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Saturday took to Twitter to raise questions about the actual quantity of COVID vaccine produced by the two domestic manufacturers- Bharat Biotech and the Serum Institute- in India.

The Congress leader welcomed the announcement by corporate, including Reliance Group and HCL, to vaccinate their employees, their families, and business partners, but questioned where they will procure the vaccine supply from. He said, “State governments are not able to get supplies from any manufacturer — domestic or foreign. So, from where do the corporates expect to get their supplies?”

Chidambaram added, “The proper thing to do is direct a CAG driven full-scope audit of capacity, production, despatch, supply and customers’ lists of the two domestic manufacturers.”

India recorded 1,86,364 COVID cases in the last 24 hours, the lowest in the last 44 days. The active caseload in the country has further declined to 23,43,152 as active cases decrease by 76,755 in the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry said on Friday morning.

The recovery rate in the country has climbed up to 90.34 per cent. Meanwhile, doctors from across the globe have said that with every new COVID wave, the effect of the disease might get comparatively less impactful as the community develops herd immunity.
