All-Party Meet: Mamata Banerjee says India’s name was tarnished globally when GoI abrogated special status of JK

‘I don’t know what was the reason for removing the statehood in the first place’

New Delhi: Amid meeting between politicians from Jammu and Kashmir and Government of India (GoI) leaders headed by Narendra Modi in New Delhi, the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that India’s name was tarnished globally when the Government of India abrogated the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and divided the state into two Union Territories- JK and Ladakh.

“I don’t know what was the reason for removing the statehood in the first place. Country’s name was tarnished globally due to that move,” the West Bengal Chief Minister said. “But Anyone who questions BJP is anti-national,” she added.

Banerjee said she was not aware of the subject of the Jammu and Kashmir all-party meeting being chaired by Narendra Modi.

A crucial meeting, reportedly on the future political course of action in Jammu and Kashmir, convened by Modi, is currently underway in New Delhi with the attendance of 14 politicians from JK, including four former chief ministers.

This is the first such political exercise since August 5, 2019, when the GoI decided to abrogate Article 370 that gave Jammu and Kashmir special status.
