Srinagar: The Higher Education Department on Friday said colleges in Jammu and Kashmir will resume physical academics subject to specific permission of the concerned Deputy Commissioners.

Officials of the Higher Education Department informed that “Colleges in Jammu and Kashmir will be gradually resuming the physical academic activities from Monday. Some of the colleges will start functioning from Monday and very soon all the colleges will resume in-person academics”

“Higher education institutions have been permitted to commence with limited in-person teaching subject to 100 percent vaccination of staff and students,” reads the order issued by the department on Friday.

The order reads: “Government degree colleges of the UT shall reopen for in-person teaching subject to specific permission of the concerned deputy commissioners and the head of concerned institutions must ensure that the guidelines related to social distancing and COVID protocol are adhered to in letter and spirit.”

Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha earlier on Wednesday has said that the administration led by him was mulling to re-open all colleges and universities in Kashmir after vaccinating students above 18-years of age.

On that day, talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function at SKICC on the banks of Dal Lake, LG Sinha said that the government was fully aware of the demands of parents about reopening of schools in Kashmir.

“We are planning to open inter-colleges, colleges, and universities this month only after vaccinating all the students above 18-years-of age,” LG Sinha has said.

The LG further said that after colleges and universities, the administration will deliberate on re-opening of primary and secondary schools too.
