Srinagar: Section 144 has been imposed in district Ramban “to maintain law and order and public tranquillity” in view of killing of a local youth, whom police termed as a militant associate, a claim rejected by the family.

The restrictions were under section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code in Famrote, Sangaldan and Seripora areas of Gool sub-division.

There were reports of demonstrations and protests in the area.

Earlier, IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar had said that Amir Ahmad who was among four persons killed in alleged Hyderpora gunfight was a militant associate.

However, the family members of Amir have said that he was working as a helper with Dr Mudasir Gul, another person killed in the military operation.

They have threatened to hold protests on Srinagar-Jammu highway if the body of Amir was not handed over to them.

Additional District Magistrate Ramban while invoking the section 144 of CrPc directed SSP Ramban to implement the restrictions from 9 AM this morning till further orders.
