JKBOSE says blasphemous content in school books hurtful, Srinagar Admin seeks FIR

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (BOSE) on Sunday said that the History and Civics of edition-2020 for the class 7th published by Delhi based JAY CEE PUBLICATIONS has hurt the sentiments of people.

The Board has accordingly directed all the schools affiliated with either with Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) or JKBOSE to withdraw the book immediately.

An official from the JKBOSE department said,  “All the schools of UTs of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh affiliated either with CBSE, JKBOSE or any other Board of the country are directed not to use the textbook of “History and Civics,” Edition, 2020 for class 7th published by JAY CEE PUBLICATIONS Pvt Ltd New Delhi.”

“If the textbook is being used in any school, it must be withdrawn immediately; otherwise strict action as warranted under provisions of law shall be initiated,” the official said.

The Board officials said that the board has condemned the act of publication of certain material that has hurt the sentiments of the people.

“The publisher is directed to withdraw this textbook immediately from all the schools wherever it has been distributed, in spite of the publishing house having regretted the mistake made by them.”

Meanwhile, District administration Srinagar has sought an First Information Report be lodged against the publication house alongside a local distributor here on Sunday.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Syed Haneef Balkhi in a communiqué, with subject matter reading ‘Publication of Content of Sensitive Nature in SSt Book of Class 7th – Registration of FIR thereof, to Senior Superintendent of Police’, Srinagar reads “…Chief Education Officer, Srinagar vide his communication No CEO/Sgr/IMW/11499-11500/21 Dated 05,12,2021 has informed this office that a Delhi based Publishing House, JAY CEE Publications (P.) Ltd, AIMO House Jhandewalan Extension, New Delhi has published a social studies book for class 7th wherein content of sensitive nature has reportedly been published and is in circulation. The said book is being stocked and distributed by Paradise Book Shop, Parraypora Srinagar.”

“It is requested to take stern action against the said publishing house as well as the distributor of the book as per law”, reads the communiqué.

Taking exception to the illustration, voices have echoed from various quarters, asking for boycott of the publishing house for hurting the sentiments of Muslims.
