Sarpanch, VLW arrested for taking bribe in lieu of release of labour payment

Baramulla: Anti Corruption Bureau on Sunday said to have trapped and arrested a Sarpanch alongside a Village Level Worker in Baramulla district for accepting bribe in lieu of the release of labour payment.

“Anti Corruption Bureau received a complaint, wherein the complainant alleged that Nisar Ahmad Sheikh, Sarpanch, Halqa Zainpora and Village Level Worker (VLW) Farooq Joo of Block Development office, Norkhah, District Baramulla are demanding a bribe of Rs 40,000 from the complainant for releasing the labour payments etc”, a spokesperson said in a statement.

“On receipt of the complaint a discreet verification was conducted by Anti-corruption Bureau. On the basis of findings of the Enquiry Officer prima facie offences u/s 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 (as amended in 2018) and Sec 120-B IPC were made out against the alleged accused persons Nisar Ahmad Sheikh, Sarpanch, Halqa Zainpora and VLW Farooq Joo posted at Block Office, Norkhah, District Baramulla”, reads the statement.

Accordingly, the case was registered u/s 7 of the PC Act 1988 (as amended in 2018) and section 120-B IPC, it reads.

During the course of the investigation, a trap team was constituted. The trap team laid a successful trap and caught red-handed Sarpanch Nasir Sheikh while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant. He was arrested on the spot by the ACB team. Other accused VLW Farooq Joo was also arrested. Searches were also conducted at the premises of the accused, the statement maintains.
