Omicron tally rises to 358 in India, Maharashtra reports highest cases

New Delhi: In India, the new COVID variant Omicron tally has surged to 358 of which 114 have been discharged, the country’s Health Ministry said on Friday.

Maharashtra accounts for the highest number of Omicron cases at 88, followed by Delhi which has 67 cases, and 38 in Telangana.

The other Indian states and Union territories where Omicron variants have been detected are Maharashtra 88, Delhi 67, Telangana 38, Tamil Nadu 34, Karnataka 31, Gujarat 30, Kerala 27, Rajasthan 22, Haryana 4, Odisha 4, Jammu 3, West Bengal 3, Andhra Pradesh 2, Chandigarh 1, Ladakh 1, and Uttarakhand 1.

Meanwhile, India, in the last 24 hours reported 6,650 cases and 374 deaths, the Health Ministry of India said. The daily recoveries stood at 7,051 while the active cases declined to 775.

Amid fresh concerns raised by the Omicron, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi on Thursday held a review meeting on the situation in the country.

Modi stressed upon how important it is for the states to ensure that the hospitals have their oxygen supply equipment installed and fully functional.

He also called for the effective use of IT tools for tele-medicine and tele-consultation.

The GoI also asked the states to consider imposing local restrictions ahead of the festive season. States were also advised to be vigilant and monitor case positivity, doubling rate, and clusters of new cases across districts.
