India reports 90,928 COVID cases, 325 deaths in last 24 hours

New Delhi: India’s COVID cases soared to 90,928 in the past 24 hours, the Health Ministry of India said on Thursday. A day before the country reported 58,097 infections.

Daily deaths rose by 325, taking the total to 482,876. Total infections are at 35.11 million. As per reports, 30 more resident doctors tested COVID positive in Sion Hospital, Mumbai.

A total of 260 resident doctors in the state have been tested positive till now, said the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors.

India on Wednesday reported its first death linked to the Omicron coronavirus variant in Rajasthan as COVID cases crossed 70,000 in what the Government of India said was an “exponential rise” with the acceleration “steeper than ever”.

As Tamil Nadu and Himachal Pradesh joined a growing list of states to clamp night curfew in line with fresh curbs to deal with the expanding pandemic, the Government of India said the upsurge in COVID cases- a 6.3 times rise in the last eight days- is happening in cities and the Omicron variant is the predominant circulating strain.
