Snowfall: ‘Medium to high danger avalanche’ warning issued in Kashmir

Srinagar: Department of Disaster Management Affairs, Srinagar office, has cautioned inhabitants residing in upper reaches across Jammu and Kashmir of possible ‘medium to high danger avalanches’ amid prevailing inclement weather conditions.

“The warning exists for the higher reaches (above 2000 metres) in different tehsils across Jammu and Kashmir for upcoming 24 Hours”, reads a bulletin issued on Friday.

Among the areas falling under ‘medium danger’ warning include; Doda, Kargil and Tral (Pulwama).

Areas including; Shahbad Bala, Sallar, Pahalgam, Kokernag (Anantnag), Tulail, Gurez, Bandipora (Bandipora), Uri, Boniyar (Baramulla), Kangan, Gund (Ganderbal), Drass (Kargil), Warwan, Mughal Maidan, Marwah, Kishtwar, Drabshalla, Chhatroo (Kishtwar), Devsar, DH Pora (Kulgam), Trehgam, Machil, Lalpora, Kralpora, Keran, Karnah (Kupwara), Surankote (Poonch), Banihal (Ramban) fall under high danger avalanche warning, as per the bulletin.

“People living in these areas are cautioned to take precautions and avoid venturing on the avalanche-prone slopes”, it further reads.

Kashmir Valley and part of Jammu division received moderate to heavy snowfall while the winter capital of JK received over 80mm of rainfall overnight.

The weatherman has forecast more snowfall in the next few hours and has issued an orange color weather warning.
