Kashmiri students physically assaulted in Punjab, officials say ‘issue resolved’

Mohali: A day after three Kashmiri students were physically assaulted in Mohali Punjab, officials from Punjab said that the issue has been ‘resolved’ now as those involved in the assault have apologized to the trio. Earlier, they had assured action against the culprits.

On Monday, three Kashmiri students sustained injuries after they were physically assaulted by over 30 men, inside a housing society, in Kharar area of Mohali.

“Officials from Punjab Chief Minister’s office informed me about the incident involving a brutal physical assault on Kashmiri students on Monday,” the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association, Spokesperson, Nasir Khuehami, told Free Press Kashmir.

He said, “I had subsequently requested the officials for swift action against culprits besides ensuring the safety of Kashmiri students”.

Two among the three students are students of Regional Institute of Management and Technology (RIMT) University, and the third one is of Guru Gobind Singh College of Modern Technology (GGSCMT).

Khuehami added that the issue has been resolved now as officials have intervened in the matter. “Those involved in the assault have apologized to the Kashmiri students,” he said.

In October, last year, several Kashmiri students studying in Punjab were physically assaulted by some miscreants after India lost to Pakistan in ICC Men’s T20 world cup, 2021 and three students in Agra were booked for sedition over a Whatsapp status by Uttar Pradesh Police and shifted to Agra Jail.
