Mumbai: The cyber cell of Mumbai police has arrested three men from Haryana for making objectionable and abusive comments against Muslim women on an audio chat application, Clubhouse.

The three accused, according to Mumbai police, were arrested from Haryana and have been identified as Akash 19, Jaishnav, 21, and Yash Parashar, 22.

The trio was arrested based on their involvement in abusive discussions on the audio chatting app Clubhouse.

Two of the three accused were also involved in other online group chats targeting Muslim women. The duo will be taken to a local court, PTI reported.

The case came to light when a woman lodged a complaint against the three accused with the cyber cell of the Mumbai crime branch. The police have registered a case under section 153 (a), 295 (a), 354 (a), 354 (d) of IPC, and section 67 of Information Technology Act 2000.

Earlier this week, Delhi police wrote to the Clubhouse app and Google, asking for information on the organizer of an audio group chat targeting Muslim women.

In this matter, an FIR was also registered by the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operation unit of Delhi police which is overseen by Special Cell, after a notice issued by the Delhi Commission for Women.

The development came after a video, of Clubhouse group chat in which obscene comments were made for Muslim women, went viral.

Pertinently, hundreds of Muslim women were put up for an online ‘auction’ through the Bulli Bai app earlier this month.

The app alters the photographs of the women and shares them widely without their consent. The application was developed by a Hindu right-wing member.
