Srinagar: Jammu-Srinagar highway, the only surface link connecting Kashmir Valley with the outside world, was closed following shutting stones at Panthyal in Ramban district on Saturday.

Subsequent to it, authorities have urged people “not to travel” on the thoroughfare till the clearance work was completed.

“The restoration work is going on. It will take a few hours to make traffic worthy,” SSP Traffic highway told GNS.

“The steel tunnel has been extensively damaged and it is taking time to remove the damaged girders,” he said, adding, “Shooting stones at regular intervals is hampering the clearance”.

Meanwhile, Mughal Road, connecting Shopian with Poonch and Rajouri districts, remained closed for vehicular movement in view of snow accumulation at Peer Ki Gali.

Also, Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road remained shut for vehicular movement in view of snow accumulation on Zojila axis and has been closed till further orders. Kishtwar-Sinthan road also remained closed in view of snow accumulation, the traffic department official said.
