New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party is all set to gain control over Punjab in their first big win outside Delhi. In a massive gain from their 2017 result, AAP is leading in more than half the seats of the state assembly pushing Congress to a distant second in the state, according to details available.

The BJP is likely to retain four states, including the politically significant Uttar Pradesh, where it became the first party to retain power in 30 years. In Goa, Uttarakhand and Manipur too, the BJP is within striking distance.

“This shows AAP is the natural and national replacement of the Congress,” said Raghav Chadha, who ran the Punjab campaign for his party, NDTV quoted him as saying. He made the comments shortly after it emerged that AAP is set to make government in the state.

Both the Congress’s biggest leaders in Punjab – Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and state unit boss Navjot Singh Sidhu – were trailing, as counting of votes entered the third hour on Thursday. Amarinder Singh, former Chief Minister, loses from his constituency of Patiala Urban seat.

In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP is appeared to win nearly 300 seats. The party is leading in 266 seats while the Samajwadi Party is ahead in 128 seats. Among those leading included Yogi Adityanath from Gorakhpur, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav from Karhal. The majority mark in the 403-member legislative assembly is 202.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has claimed victories on two seats in Goa. Party leader Atishi has said that AAP’s Captain Venzy Viegas and Cruz Silva have won in Benaulim and Velim, respectively.

What started between Navjot Sidhu and Amarinder Singh continued between Sidhu and Charanjit Singh Channi as well, after Channi replaced Amarinder Singh. However, Congress put up a united face after Channi was declared the CM candidate.
