Airport incident: Two Kashmiri women did not know army personnel, says police

Srinagar: Police on Saturday issued a statement regarding an incident as two army personnel were held along with two Kashmiri women in Humhama near Srinagar airport.

Today in the morning two army personnel on their way towards the airport stopped at a local restaurant near Humhama for tea, police said.

“Two local women were already having their food at the spot,” a police spokesperson said in a statement, to Global News Service adding, “some miscreants tried to create a scene there which attracted the attention of some of the locals.”

He said Police reached the spot and intervened.

“During preliminary investigation, it was found that the army personnel and the Kashmiri women were not together and also did not know each other,” he said, adding, “later the women were handed over to their parents.”

Earlier, reports quoting sources said that two Kashmiri women along with two army personnel were caught by local shopkeepers at Srinagar Airport market on Saturday morning. The Army personnel are said to be from 2-RR and women are said to be from Singhpora Pattan.

All the caught persons were handed over to Police post Humhama and investigations have been set into motion, sources had said.

They confirmed the incident saying, “two Kashmiri women along with two army personnel were caught by some shopkeepers on Saturday at rented rooms outside Srinagar Airport falling in the jurisdiction of police post Humhama Budgam”.
