New Delhi: A day after China said that the Kashmir dispute should be peacefully and properly addressed in accordance with the UN agreement during the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation meeting in Islamabad, Pakistan, India said it rejects the remarks made by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi regarding Kashmir.

“We reject the reference to India. Matters related to J&K are entirely India’s internal affairs. Other nations, including China, have no locus standi to comment. They should note India refrains from the public judgment of their internal issues,” the MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said.

Matters related to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir are entirely the internal affairs of India and other countries including China have no locus standi to comment, he said.

They should note that India refrains from the public judgment of their internal issues, Bagchi added.

Earlier, speaking at the conference, Wang had said, “On the Kashmir issue, we have once again heard the call of many Islamic friends. China shares the same aspiration.”

China believes that the Kashmir dispute should be peacefully and properly addressed in accordance with the UN Charter, Security Council resolutions and the bilateral agreement.

In August 2019, when the Indian government abrogated Article 370, China said it was seriously concerned about the current situation in Kashmir adding that its position on the Kashmir issue is clear and consistent.

“This issue is a legacy of history between India and Pakistan, which is also the consensus of the international community,” said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying.

Beijing also opposed India’s move to create a separate Union Territory of Ladakh, saying it affects China’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
