Shopian: A military operation against militants is underway in Haripora village of Imam sahib hamlet in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, police said on Wednesday.
An official said that a joint team of Police, Army’s 44 RR, and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.
He said that as the joint team of armed forces approached the suspected spot, militants fired upon them triggering the operation.
A senior police officer also confirmed the exchange of gunfire between militants and armed forces.
