Militant arrested four days after joining LeT in Bandipora, says police

Srinagar: A Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT/TRF) militant was arrested in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, four days after his picture announcing joining the outfit went ‘viral’ on social media, police said on Monday.

“On April 17, Bandipora police received a specific input regarding the presence of recently joined LeT( TRF) (militant) in the orchards of Lawaypora Bandipora,” a police official said in a statement.

“Acting on this information, a joint CASO (cordon-and-serach-operation) was launched by police, (army’s) 14 RR and 3 battalion CRPF. One youth namely Amir Tariq Khan alias Waleed son of Tariq Ahmad Khan of Lawaypora Bandipora was arrested,” the police official said, adding, “The youth’s photograph regarding joining of TRF outfit went viral on social media on 13 April 2022.”

In this regard, the official said that cognizance was taken in police station Bandipora under the relevant section of the law and further investigation was going on.
