Cop injured in Srinagar militant attack succumbs, says police

Srinagar: A Jammu and Kashmir police personnel, who was shot at by suspected militants at Ali Jan road in Srinagar, succumbed to his injuries at SK Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura on Friday evening.

Earlier in the day, police had said that suspected militants fired upon off-duty police personnel namely Ghulam Hassan, working as a driver at PCR helpline 112.

The police personnel was rushed to SKIMS Soura, where he succumbed to his injuries, they said.

A top police officer said that the cop, Ghulam Hassan Dar son of Ghulam Rasool Dar of Danwar Eidgah, was travelling in his bike, possibly on way to duty at PCR, when militant fired upon him this morning, leaving him critically injured.

The policeman, driver with 112 police vehicle, was shifted to nearby SKIMS hospital, the officer said.

Later in the evening, the policeman succumbed to his injuries, officials in the tertiary care hospital confirmed.
