Anantnag: A military operation against militants started in Marhama area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, police said.

A senior police officer said that armed forces including Police, Army’s 3 RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in the Marhama area of Bijbehara following inputs about the presence of militants there.

He said the search operation turned into operation after the militants fired upon the forces party. The exchange of fire is going on and further details are awaited, police added.

Pertinently, this is the second military operation Anantnag witnessed in the last 24 hours. Yesterday, around this time, the military operation had started in Kreeri Dooru area of Anantnag. The operation ended with the killing of two lashkar-e-Taiba militants.

Meanwhile, another operation against militants is underway in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district. The operation, officials said, began after a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in the forest area.

As the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them triggering the operation.
