Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti on Friday claimed that she has been placed under house arrest in Srinagar as she wanted to visit the slain Kashmiri Pandit’s family for condolences.

“Wanted to visit Budgam to express my solidarity with Kashmiri pandits protesting against GOIs failure to protect them. Have been put under house arrest as the fact that Kashmiri muslims & pandits empathise with each other’s pain doesn’t fit into their vicious communal narrative,” Mehbooba wrote on her Twitter handle.

Rahul Bhat, a Kashmiri Pandit, was fired upon at the Tehsildar’s office in the Chadoora village. He was critically injured and was shifted to a local hospital where he succumbed to injuries.

The police in a statement later said that two militants barged into the government office and shot Bhat, an employee there, at point-blank range.

Earlier on Thursday, Mehbooba while condemning the Bhat’s said, “Another life ended and another family devastated. My heart goes out to the bereaved family in this hour of grief. It also belies the false claims of normalcy in Kashmir.”
