Samajwadi Party member Azam Khan walks out of UP jail after 27 months

Uttar Pradesh: Senior Samajwadi Party member Azam Khan was released from the Sitapur jail in Uttar Pradesh this morning, a day after the Supreme Court granted him interim bail in an alleged cheating case.

Khan was in jail for the last 27 months in connection with several cases, including that of land grabbing. He reached the residence of ex-MLA Anoop Gupta after the release.

He was issued interim bail by the Supreme Court, after which the Rampur court issued the order for his release. The release order was sent to Sitapur Jail on Thursday night.

Azam Khan’s son Abdullah Azam, along with Shivpal Yadav and SP MLA from Saharanpur Dehat, Ashu Malik reached Sitapur jail to receive the SP member.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav took to Twitter to congratulate Azam Khan after he was released from the prison.
