100 militants killed in Kashmir this year so far, says police

Srinagar: 100 militants have been killed so far this year in Kashmir Valley and the number is twice than the same period last year, Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar said.

Of those killed this year during the five months and 12 days this year, he said, 71 include local and 29 foreign militants. 50 militants—49 locals and one foreigner were killed last year in 2021 in the same duration, the top police officer said in a tweet. “Maximum losses to LeT (63) and JeM (24) outfits,” he said.

On December 31 last year, the IGP Kashmir that for the first time since militancy began in the Valley, the number of militants in operation had fallen below 200, and the total number of local militants below 100.

“This is the first time that the total number of (militants) has come down below 200 across Kashmir,” IGP Kumar had said. “It is also the first time in history that the number of local (militants) is below 100 – at 85 or 86,” he had said.
