Police on alert in Udaipur following Tailor’s murder, CM appeals for peace

Jaipur: Police in Rajasthan’s Udaipur are on alert following the murder of a tailor in Maldas area.

Shops have been shut, the police are on alert and Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has appealed for peace.

Calling the sitation “painful” and “shameful”, Gehlot said a situation of animosity has been created, NDTV reported.

The murder is apparently linked to a series of inflammatory social media posts from two communities. The tailor is an accused in the case and was even questioned by the police.

The murder was filed by the alleged attackers and searches are on for them.

“I have spoken to the Chief Minister, the Superintendent of police and asked that arrests be made as soon as possible so the anger simmers down,” said opposition member, as per the report.

Manoj Kumar, Superintendent of Police, Udaipur, said that few accused have been identified, adding that strict action will be taken against them.

“A heinous murder has been committed and a thorough investigation will be conducted into the incident. Few accused have been identified. Police teams constituted to locate the accused. We will take action on the video of men claiming to have committed the act,” Kumar told news agency ANI.
