Analysing CCTV footage of attack site, says police after militants shot dead ASI in Srinagar

Srinagar: Additional director general of police Kashmir zone, Vijay Kumar on Tuesday said that they were analyzing the CCTV footage of the attack site, where a police ASI was killed and two more cops were injured after militants attacked a naka party in Lal Bazar area of Srinagar.

Talking to reporters, Kumar said that on the 3rd day of Eid al-Azha, there was a huge rush of families and in order to regulate the rush a naka of a small team of police was laid in the area.

“The team consisted of ASI and two other policemen, so militants took advantage of that and fired indiscriminately upon the naka party, in which one ASI was killed and two more cops got injured,” he said.

Kumar said that the two policemen who got injured in the attack were stable and were undergoing treatment at the hospital.

He added that they were analyzing the CCTV footage to ascertain who carried out the attack and that the militants involved in the act will soon be killed.

ASI of Jammu and Kashmir police identified as Mushtaq Ahmad was killed, while two more cops including a head constable and an SPO were injured after militants attacked them in Lal Bazar area of Srinagar on Tuesday evening.

Police in a tweet had also said, “Terrorists fired upon police naka party at Lal Bazar area of Srinagar city. In this terror incident, three police personnel got injured & they have been shifted to hospital. Area has been cordoned. Further details shall follow.”

Pertinently, Aqib Mushtaq, son of the slain police officer, was killed in a military operation in April 2020 in Kulgam district of south Kashmir.
