JK witnesses surge in COVID cases, reports 165 infections in last 24 hours

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir witnessed a rise in the number of daily COVID cases with 165 fresh infections reported in the last 24 hours, taking the overall caseload to 4,56,456, officials said on Thursday.

112 cases were reported from Jammu division and 53 from Kashmir, they said.

Giving district wise details, he said, Jammu reported 92 cases, Srinagar 43, Udhampur seven, Kathua six, Gandebal five, Samba four, Anantnag two while Rajouri, Ramban, Reasi, Pulwama, Baramulla and Kupwara reported one case each.

Among the total cases, 167905 are from Jammu division and 288551 from Kashmir, they said.

There was no death in Jammu region due to the pathogen in the last 24 hours, they said. So far, 4,758 persons have succumbed to the virus—2,333 in Jammu and 2,425 in Kashmir.

Besides, they said, 119 COVID patients recovered during the last 24 hours—75 from Jammu division and 44 from Kashmir Valley. There are now 815 active case— 503 in Jammu and 312 in Kashmir.

The officials said there was no new confirmed case of mucormycosis (black fungus) reported today.

So far, 51 black fungus cases have been confirmed in JK, the officials said. They also informed that 5,805 doses of COVID vaccine were administered during the time in JK.
