Amalgam urges Admin to release Kashmir’s Chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq from house detention

Srinagar: Mutahida-Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU), a conglomerate of several religious organizations, on Thursday asked religious clerics to refrain from creating rifts amongst the different sects of Islam.

“There are many sects in Islam and everybody is allowed to follow the teachings in whatever way he wants to. But, nobody should be allowed to create fissures in Islam,” the MMU leaders said while addressing a news conference on Thursday.

The MMU said that several meetings have taken place in the past while a fresh meeting was also held today to discuss some incidents which affect the peace amongst the different sects. “Islam is a religion of peace and nobody should be allowed to create rifts by indulging in prohibited actions,” the MMU said.

It said that all the religious clerics belonging to different sects will be asked to refrain from giving statements that would hurt the sentiments of people belonging to other sects.

“The Ulemas are united to ensure peace. Nobody will be allowed to cross the limits, which would affect the peace amongst the different sects,” the MMU said.

The amalgam made a fervent appeal to the LG administration to end the house detention of Kashmir’s chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who is under continuous house arrest since August 5, 2019.
