Shopian: Reacting to the halting of fruit-laden trucks stranded on the Srinagar-Jammu highway as the administration does not allow the movement; Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday said that the Government of India is crushing the economy of Kashmir as Israel did with Palestinians.

The former Chief Minister of the Jammu and Kashmir said the people associated with horticulture have taken loans and when their crop, which is a backbone of the economy, is being halted like this on the highway, how growers will pay their debts then?

Mehbooba added that GoI terrorizes the Kashmiris and is hell-bent on crushing the economy of Kashmir. “It exactly does what Jews/Israel did with Palestinians in order to crush their economy,” the PDP chief said.

Mehbooba asked why a truck takes a single day to reach Srinagar from Jammu and four days from Kashmir to go outside the Valley after loading fruits. Mehbooba was in Shopian’s Aglar area to meet fruit growers.

“Despite Jammu and Kashmir Governor Manoj Sinha’s assurance, the trucks are not being allowed to move. It is a strategy to compress the economy of Kashmir generally based on horticulture and agriculture, by GoI and we will not let it happen,” Mehbooba said.

The politician requested the LG Sinha to take immediate notice of what she termed a grave issue and address the genuine problems of the growers.
