Srinagar: A group of unidentified men on Monday brought down the signboard of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference in Rajbagh Srinagar.
In various video clips, viral on social media, the mob can be seen pulling the signboard from the Hurriyat office in Rajbagh.
A number of media persons shooting the incident can also be seen in the videos.
Responding to the incident, Hurriyat said, “the office they are looking for is in Raj Bhawan, not Raj Bagh”.
“Someone tell them that the office they’re looking for is in Raj Bhawan, not Raj Bagh…,” Hurriyat tweeted.
Hurriyat has called the mob ‘sponsored goons’ and said that ‘police acted as bystanders’
In a statement, Hurriyat said, “APHC denounces the hooliganism demonstrated outside its Rajbagh office in Srinagar by sponsored goons with police as bystanders. it’s a petty attempt at diverting attention from the authorities’ failure to safeguard the lives of Kashmiri Pandits. It’s shameful that the unfortunate killing is being exploited for promoting propaganda against Hurriyat whose activists and leaders are either in jails or under house detention.”
“APHC in principle has always denounced killings of all hues and has since its inception advocated the return of Kashmiri Pandits to the valley with dignity and in safety. It is the brute use of force and authority and a myopic outlook of those at the helm, that has made Kashmir a dangerous place for all its inhabitants,” the statement added.
