Our kin was murdered, hit on head with iron road, says north Kashmir family as they protest against ‘died in road accident’ claim

Saqlain Rashid of of Zanigam Beerwah, Budgam.

Tangmarg: Family members and relatives of a young man who died a day before, staged a protest in the Kunzar Tangmarg area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, demanding a thorough investigation into what they termed the ‘murder’ of their 22-year-old kin Saqlain Rashid. The deceased is a native of Zanigam Beerwah, Budgam.

Yesterday, it was reported that Saqlain Rashid succumbed in the hospital after getting injured in a road accident near Drang Tangmarg. However, the family and relatives of the deceased youth contested the claim and alleged that he has been ‘murdered’.

“The bike he used has not even a scratch. He has not suffered any injury. Somebody has hit his head with an iron rod,” the relatives claimed to add that his associate who was also on the bike has not suffered any injury as well.

The protesters said that there is no reason to believe that Saqlain was killed in the road accident. They raised slogans seeking justice and demanded top police brass for speedy investigation.

A police official said that a case in this regard has already been registered and an investigation is underway. (KNT)
