Shopian military OP: Slain militants identified, says police

Srinagar: Additional Director General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar on Tuesday said that three Lashkar-i-Taiba militants were killed in a military operation in Munjh Marg area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

The Kashmir Police Zone while quoting ADGP Kashmir tweeted, ” Among 03 neutralised local militants, 02 identified as Lateef Lone of Shopian, involved in the killing of a Kashmiri Pandit Shri Purana Krishna Bhat & Umer Nazir of Anantnag, involved in the killing of Till Bahadur Thapa of Nepal. 01 AK 47 rifle & 2 pistols recovered”.

Earlier, an official said that a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.

He said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering the operation.
