Srinagar: A family from the Kunan Poshpora area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration in Srinagar alleging that their kin went missing in army custody.
The sister of the detainee, who was among the protesting family members at Press Enclave, said their kin, Abdul Rashid, was picked by the army on December 15.
The army told the family that Rashid is needed for questioning and will be released soon, she said.
“The army whisked him away in their vehicle and we were told to report in the camp the next day,” Rashid’s sister told reporters.
She said the next day on December 16 when they went to the Trehgam camp; they were made to wait till 4:00 pm as they were initially told by the army that Rashid is being questioned. “Later, we were told that he escaped from custody,” she said.
The family member said they have already approached the Senior Superintendent of Police and Deputy Commissioner of Kupwara but nothing happened on the ground.
“We were told to wait for two days but seven days have passed already and our brother has not returned yet,” she said.
The family has appealed to the administration of Jammu and Kashmir led by Manoj Sinha seeking the release of their kin on an immediate basis.
