‘224 Palestinians killed by Israeli forces so far this year’
Israeli forces shot dead a Palestinian footballer and injured 25 others early Thursday during a military raid in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus.
The Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed that 23-year-old Ahmed Atef Daraghmeh, from the West Bank city of Tubas, was shot with Israeli live bullets in the back and feet during a military raid into the eastern neighborhood of Nablus, Quds News Network reported.
The report quoting local sources said that large numbers of Israeli forces, accompanied by a military bulldozer, stormed overnight Wednesday the eastern area of Nablus to secure the settlers’ raid into Joseph’s Tomb.
Confrontations erupted between Palestinians and Israeli forces as the latter fired live bullets, rubber-coated metal bullets, and tear gas canisters toward the residents who refused the settlers’ raid of the area and tried to block their passage.
The report quoting medical sources confirmed that at least 25 Palestinians were injured in the course of confrontations, including four sustained injuries from live bullets, two others sustained rubber-coated metal bullet injuries in the hand and head, and 19 people suffocated after inhaling tear gas.
A general strike was announced in Tubas, where the soccer player for the town’s local team lived, on Thursday.
The killing comes amid a spike in Israeli violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank this year. 224 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces and settlers so far this year, making 2022 the deadliest year for Palestinians since 2005.
