New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia after questioning him for eight hours on Sunday in the Delhi liquor policy case.

The investigation agency has now sought custody of Sisodia for five days.

On Monday, in view of the protest called by AAP, heavy police deployment was witnessed outside the party’s headquarters on Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg.

Many AAP MLAs and councillors were detained by Delhi Police ahead of the protest against the BJP.

There was heavy police deployment and three-layered security barricading at the CBI office.

Heavy police force was also deployed at Rouse Avenue Court where Sisodia was to be produced.

The police had said traffic in the central part of the city is likely to be affected during the day.
The CBI on Sunday said they arrested Sisodia for alleged irregularities in framing and implementation of the excise policy as he gave “evasive replies” and “did not cooperate in the investigation”.

It said the present case was registered against Sisodia and 14 others for investigation into the matter of alleged irregularities in framing and implementation of the Excise Policy for 2021-22 and extending post-tender benefits to private persons.

Meanwhile, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan has said that Sisodia’s arrest is another example of BJP misusing govt agencies’.

“The arrest of Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia by CBI is another example of how BJP misuses the Union Government’s agencies to intimidate the opposition. It’s a blatant abuse of power aned an attack on democracy,” Vijayan tweeted.

The Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in a tweet said that most CBI officers were against Sisodia’s arrest.

“I am told that most CBI officers were against Manish’s arrest. All of them have huge respect for him and there is no evidence against him,” he tweeted.
